The Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group has planned a series of actions on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Titled "Iraq for Iraqis Now! U.S. Out / Five Years of War and Occupation" the actions begin at 11 AM at Terry Schrunk Plaza, SW 3rd and Madison, moving to the World Trade Center, SW 1st and Salmon, at Noon and the Old Federal Courthouse, SW Broadway and Main, at 1 PM. The action picks up again from 4-6 PM at Terry Schrunk, where protestors will gather to remind rush hour commuters that the destruction of Iraq, which really began over 17 years ago in 1990, continues due to U.S. policies.

In addition to their high visibility downtown, each site also houses the offices of a federal elected official from Oregon--Senators Smith and Wyden, and Representative Wu.

This event has been cosponsored by Families for Peace, Code Pink Portland, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom-Portland, and others; endorsed by NW Veterans for Peace, the WRL's Military and Draft Counseling Project, Freedom Socialist Party, Portland Peaceful Response Coalition and others; and supported by Yamhill Valley Peacemakers.

PJW will also have a presence at the Saturday March 15 mobilization being organized by numerous community groups.
